Title: “Blue Morning”
Medium: Oil on Panel
Dimensions: 12″x12″x2″
Price: $450 USD
You may be wondering why I paint a seemingly frivolous subject matter such as a lollipop one day, followed by what appears to be a darker deeper emotional work the next. The range crosses a spectrum as vast as the Grand Canyon.
I guess it’s because I tend to paint what ever inspires me, and that inspiration goes far and wide.
My life experiences reflect back in my work, and my life is far from being singular.
In my lollipop paintings, it’s not so much an image of a lollipop as it is a recollection of a childhood memory. If you connect, your senses awake with sweet flavor enveloping your mouth and nose - the savoring and joy a simple lollipop brings.
In Blue Morning, it’s not so much an image of a woman holding her head, as it is of a recollection of a point in someone’s life. It’s up to you to determine why she has her hand over her head. Is the sun to bright? Possibly. Did she have a rough evening the night before? Does she have a migraine now? What is her relationship to the woman in front of her? Has she recalled a painful memory? Is her heart empty? Has she suffered a recent loss?
Whatever you choose, you’ll likely base it on some of the multi-faceted life experiences which have shaped you.

Title: “Wild Lion”
Medium: Oil on Panel
Dimensions: 12″x12″
Price: $450 USD
Oh maybe you know me by now….this is not your typical still life.
I bought a bunch of these chip clips, and when I’m not eating chips, I use them in my *studio for a multitude of tasks; everything from attaching mini panels to my easel, to grouping papers together. The plastic has a slight transparency which beckoned me to include it.
When I select a subject to paint it’s no surprise I want to delve in a little deeper. While investigating Dandelions, I tripped across an amazing site called fxcuisine. The author François-Xavier happened to write a beautiful article about Dandelion Syrup. I had never heard of such a thing, but thought it was worth sharing.
I hope you enjoy my painting as well as the fxcuisine site.
* I have dedicated clips which never leave the studio.

Title: “Blow Pop #1″
Medium: Oil on Panel
Dimensions: 7″x5″
Price: $125
This is not the “classic” tootsie pop - it is a blow pop. It’s filled with bubble gum instead of chocolate tootsie roll. A few key indicators to it’s identity are:
These pops were originally manufactured by The Charms Company but in 1988 was acquired by Tootsie Roll Industries. I guess they bought out their competition!

Yes; even a weed can be interesting. Where I grew up there were dandelions, but not like the ones where I live now. They used to be shorter and plumper. When you picked them a milky white substance would appear around the stem. You could eat the young leaves, and they would mature to a soft puffy symmetrical head with a white center. The ones now on the side of the road are long and lean, with scrappy small leaves. The pom pom (for lack of a better word) is much more interesting. The gray fluff is wilder, some pieces are matted together as if a wet animal tromped through the field disturbing there peacefulness. They also have hairs of red/gold that poke out and bend in multiple directions.

Title: “Disappearing Dusk”
Medium: Oil on Panel
Dimenstions: 12″x12″x1.5″
Disappearing dusk,
Stars brighten in the darkness,
Evening is magic
People are interesting - even if they are just standing there. I saw this man leaning over the rail his shaved head with a glow from the light above. It was getting dark outside just before the last traces of light were available. The color of the sky turned a deep magnificent blue and shone through giant windows that were behind him.

Title: “BFF”
Dimensions: 12″x12″x1.5″
Medium: Oil on Panel with painted sides

BFF - Best Friends Forever
I feel very fortunate because it seems like every time I make a major geographical move, I’m able to make friends with someone I consider to be a very close or best friend. These are relationships that are cultivated over time and it’s hard to put into words just what they mean, but I know they are more precious than anything I own.
I have a long time friend from Connecticut - Carolyn. Over the years I lost track of how to get in touch with her. I moved to another part of the country but thought about her often. With the help of the internet I was able to contact one of her brothers, and finally we connected. The astounding thing about it was; although almost 20 years had passed since we last talked ….it was just like picking up right where we left off. Since then, we’ve had many wonderful conversations, emails and letters.
Rene from Chicago and Carol from North Carolina are also two dear friends who recently put into motion businesses they have been cultivating.
Rene who is passionate about cooking just started a business called Learn, Cook, Eat. She has witty sense of humor and has been teaching professionally for a number of years. Now she is combining that with her passion for food by teaching public and private cooking classes concentrated on how to use tools and equipment you already own to create great recipes and have fun in the process.
Carol just launched an online business called Girlfriends Rock! She put together whimsical designs that are available on a multitude of products including t-shirts, bags, note cards etc.
Well usually I don’t get all that personal in my blog postings, let alone mention friends names, but I guess this little painting caused me to pause and examine how fortunate I’ve been with regards to having such dear friends.
One thing is for sure, as time passes, contact with your friends may wax and wane but a good friend is only a phone call away.
