Blue Ridge Mountains - I

Blue Ridge Mountains - I

Title: “Blue Ridge Mountains - I ”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

If you have never been to North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, you are really missing something. If you have been there you know the beauty all around you. Technically it is a mountain chain in the eastern United States and is the eastern part of the Appalachian Mountains, and runs from Georgia all the way to Pennsylvania.

Side Note: That is something I’ve always wanted to do - hike the Appalachian Trail but I’ll save those comments for another day.

The Blue ridge gets it’s name from the beautiful blue hues you see as you look over the mountain chain. Hopefully I’ll be back this fall and will be able to soak up the color as the leaves change.

Waiter

Waiter

Title: “Waiter”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

You will see me switch from time to time, from people to things. I like them both. I loved the way the light was shining in the windows of this restaurant, and then the light from the waiters stand was very warm and conveyed a yellow tone to his hand and shirt.

Saffron

Saffron

Title: “Saffron”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

Saffron, a spindly reddish twisted needle, is one of the worlds most expensive spices. It is actually the stigmas of the crocus flower, and is prized for its taste and the unique golden color it lends to dishes.

Spectral Signature

Oil

Title: “Spectral Signature”
Dimensions: 10″x8″
Medium: Oil

This is not your typical still life. I wanted to reach beyond the classic, sometimes stale painting of a still life and give a fresh modern approach to it. Are you wondering what those purple/pink things are on the sides? Are you wondering what’s in the glass container? Do you know what a “spectral signature” is?

I could have just painted the glass container with the reflections and without the color sources, but I wanted to give a little visual explanation of where these electric colors were coming from. Sometimes you give data and sometimes you hold back. Just looking at the painting, you may not know what it’s all about. I’ve had a few questions about what those things are on the side, but hey, if it causes you to think a little, that’s a good thing.

I’m interested in your comments.

Evening Out

Evening Out

Title: “Evening Out”
Dimensions: 5″x5″
Medium: Oil

For this painting I wanted to try something completely different, so I turned the painting on a 45 degree angle and painted it. It should hang this way (if you are interested in purchasing it). I liked the sharpness of the toes and the angles of the canvas/board. The shoes are black leather with a gold lining.

Note: The black background is not part of the painting, only the diamond shape in the middle is actually the painting.

This painting is sold.
