Title: “Fishing with a Friend”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil
I was at a friends house in Blowing Rock, NC and from their porch you can see the mountains and a lovely pond stocked with trout and cat fish. It’s a great little hole for fishing.
They live on a street called “Artist’s Alley”, its just south of Blowing Rock on Highway 221. We we’ll be up there for an art show on Saturday, November 24 from 10:00 am to 6:00pm. Several artists will have their studios open to the public and will be demonstrating their skills. We should have a variety of 2D and 3D artwork including painting, weaving, pottery, and much more!
Please mark your calendar and stop by for some fun. Click here for a map.

Title: “Afraid of My Own Shadow”
Dimensions: 4″x4″
Medium: Oil
This dog was paying a lot of attention to the shadow it was casting. The expression of it’s face looked as if it was afraid of it, and I must say; for a little one, it is a bit scary.

Title: “Lead Dog”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil
If I am taking a photo reference for a painting I’ll complete later; invariably there is someone looking right into the lens. It just happens - you hold a camera up and someone looks. In this case it was the dog on the left looking straight at me.
What attracts me to this composition is the melange of feet on the right; the people’s feet the dogs feet (paws), and the shadow feet are all together. In the clearing on the left is the English Setter, and look at his stance. He is taking a rest but is definately the “Lead Dog”.

Title: “Metro Dog”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil
I thought this woman was a statement - She had on a brightly colored coat, high heels, painted toe nails and a fluffy dog to walk with her.

Title: “Portrait of a Young Bull”
Dimensions: 7″x5″
Medium: Oil
Before I get into my series of London and Paris, I wanted to paint something from home. This was a young bull in a field not to far from where I live. His horns are little nibs just out of our view, but when he bent his head down to graze you could see them. Many of the farms in our area have given way to new neighborhoods. This little guy was awesome! He sometimes cocked his head and seemed to look at me as strangely as I was looking at him. His face was precious - long eyelashes, dark eyes, a pink nose and a coat that that looked soft and warm.
