At a festival in Tennessee this guy was playing a mean fiddle out in the heat of the day. He was cool with his hat on, extreme baggy overalls, and those mountain songs coming from his instrument. I asked if he would mind if I took his picture. He replied “sure go ahead” then later he walked over to me and said “I’m out here in the public so you shouldn’t have to ask me if it’s OK to take my picture - but thanks”, and as he was walking back to his stool, I took another of him and thought what a cool guy.

Q: Ever wonder what the difference between a fiddle and a violin is?
A: About $10,000. That’s a joke.

They say “fiddling” is a “type” of music the same as “classical” is a type however they are played using virtually the same instrument. A violin….or is it a fiddle??

Eggplant

This is the last eggplant from my garden this season. It’s pretty amazing I still have peppers and eggplant growing in my garden and it’s November. I also have lettuce and swiss chard but those little slugs love the swiss chard, ignoring almost everything else the chard has been nawed down to stubs. I’ve given them a little afternoon cocktail by putting out a little bud light for their enjoyment, hoping it will keep them occupied and away from the chard.

We still have not experienced our first frost this year. Our average is around mid October so it’s quite late. I’ll keep gardening as long as the climate permits.

Have you ever played the word game scrabble? If so, you may know that there was an online game site called Scrabulous. It was forced to shut down due to a law suit by Hasbro/Parker Brothers - owners of scrabble. Scrabulous was gone one day and Lexulous popped up the next. Clever people - evidently found a way around the name and/or the law suit.

When I need a break from painting I often play the practice mode against the computer. I crank it up to level 9 and it plays many words I’ve never heard of like KYNDES and RIZ neither of which I can find in my dictionaries at home or online. If anyone knows the meaning please let me know, otherwise I’ll chock it up to “the computer game occasionally cheats”. It can be a lot of fun but I will give you advance warning - it can take up a lot of TIME.

My husband suggested I do a series of these. If you are interested in a particular word or phrase, please contact me and ask me about commissioning a painting specifically for you.
